The Power of Protein

What's new

Our goal is to make the world fall in love with plant-based food. We believe that the taste can amaze you, but it’s not just the taste that’s great: Plant-based food is also a great source of protein. Now we’ve all heard proteins are important, but why is that? And what is a protein anyway?

Up your protein game with this article and see for yourself why we’re big fans of plant-based protein and how we make sure you get enough protein in when eating our products.

What is protein?

First thing first. What is protein? Proteins are large molecules made up of smaller units called amino acids. Our body needs these amino acids to work the way it should. They help build and maintain bones, muscles and skin. They also produce enzymes, hormones, neurotransmitters, and antibodies and support the regulation and expression of DNA and RNA[1]. And did you know that aside from water, proteins are the most abundant kind of molecules in the body?

Amino acids

OK, so a protein is made up of amino acids. Now let’s take a closer look at those amino acids. There are essential amino acids our body cannot produce. That means we can only get them from our diet. The good news is, there’s a lot of protein in plant-based food. One of the key ingredients we use for our products is soy, which carries lots of fibers, vitamins and protein. As a matter of fact, soy provides 9 essential amino acids, which makes it a high quality source of protein[2]. There’s plenty of other plant-based sources of protein like other legumes, grains, nuts, and seeds. If you’re going for a plant-based meal, there’s loads of options to get all the protein, nutrients, and vitamins you need.
